Computers and the internet have impacted industries across the globe. One specific industry where substantial change has occurred is paper-based testing services. Scantron identified early on the great advantages computer-based testing could offer our customers, and for the better part of a decade, we have made significant investments in our onsite and online computer-based testing services. Our vast experience with internet-based testing continues to prove all the advantages it offers organizations of all sizes.

Flexibility

  • When offering onsite and online computer-based testing, examination times can be more flexible providing the candidate various options for when and where to take the test.
  • Organizations also have more flexibility in designing their testing programs including how long the tests are and whether testing is spread out across multiple days, or “windows”, or offered on a continuous “on-demand: basis.

Quality Control

  • Cheating is always a major concern. Computer-based testing has multiple built-in features that limit cheating.
  • Computer-based testing allows administrators to create multiple test versions or “forms”, greatly reducing or eliminating the chances out of test content being exposed.
  • There are a number of security measures that are put in place:
  • Lock-down browsers – Not allowing test takers to use tools like Print Screen or the ESC keys prohibiting screen shots or backing up to a previous screen to change answers.
  • Dual-proctor login – Requires a test proctor to log-in before a user can begin a test.
  • Online-proctor – An administrator can watch a candidate test in real-time via webcam to ensure top quality control.

Testing Opportunities

  • Online and computer-based testing provide administrators the freedom and flexibility to increase the quality of tests by offering engaging videos, images, multimedia clips and PDF’s that are not available with paper-based testing.

Security

  • Online data storage allows for administrators to better manage testing services and eliminates the need for risky paper storage and shipping to and from test sites.
  • Increases the security of tests and results through data encryption.
